Challenge
Basiqdental's B2B commerce platform needed country-specific storefront themes and ongoing frontend enhancements on top of SAP Commerce Cloud and Spartacus.
The project also needed stronger automated frontend testing and, during my second engagement, a transition from Spartacus 6 to Composable Storefront 2211 without disrupting the existing commerce experience.
Role and responsibilities
I contributed to the Angular and Spartacus storefront during two engagements: May–October 2022 and February–July 2024. My responsibilities included:
- Developing and maintaining storefront themes for Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
- Implementing frontend enhancements and updates.
- Working directly with client stakeholders to adapt experiences for different markets.
- Introducing Cypress into the development workflow.
- Leading the storefront transition from Spartacus 6 to Composable Storefront 2211.
- Supporting performance, maintainability, and user-experience improvements during the migration.
Technical decisions
SAP Spartacus with Hybris CMS
The storefront needed to work with the client's existing SAP Commerce platform and B2B product infrastructure. Spartacus supplied the Angular storefront layer while Hybris remained responsible for commerce and CMS data.
Shared platform with country-specific themes
Six markets required customized presentation while continuing to use the shared commerce platform. Country-specific themes allowed those differences without creating entirely separate storefront applications.
Cypress for automated storefront testing
Cypress was introduced to automate frontend checks and make verification more repeatable as shared features and country themes changed.
Migration to Composable Storefront 2211
The storefront was moved from Spartacus 6 to SAP Composable Storefront 2211 to keep the application aligned with the newer platform and make its updated capabilities available.
Result or measurable impact
The project delivered customized storefront themes across Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark; ongoing B2B commerce improvements; Cypress-based automated testing; and a completed transition from Spartacus 6 to Composable Storefront 2211.
No test-coverage percentage, performance benchmark, conversion result, or production-volume metric is currently available, so none is claimed here.
